BBS Experience 1 -- 02/24/26

So in my free time i've been checking out some BBS sites using Syncterm, if you're a web nerd like me, you'll fuck with the ansi graphics, oldschool terminal UI's and many different sites you can find, made by proffesional and indie devs alike. As someone who cant code for shit right now, aside from some of my spaghetti code projects i did in C, it's pretty impressive what someone with actual web talent can do. One of my favorites-- purely for the aesthetic is the wizards castle (wccastle.synchro.net). The ansi art is cool, it doesnt seem to have a whole lot in terms of users but theres a basic internet chatbot called "The Guru" that you can speak to. Reminds me of the chat program from war games a bit. Definitely a blast from the past-- nothing like chatgpt or any of that llm shit. Theres a charm to it. One thing i find really cool about these sites is the chatrooms, you can talk to people, email people, etc from these services. Even get your own email domain. I highly recommend checking out 4d2.org, theyve got their own bbs board and a couple other privace focused services. Along with that, they also host a matrix home server. Yeah matrix is proprietary but it's not dickcord by any means, i trust it as a viable alternative to discord. Who knows, at some point i might make an IRC or matrix instance for this site, if it even gets the traffic for that lol. But yeah, that's all i really have to say on that right now.
